Abigail's Dedication

Today was Abigail's dedication. Here is a prayer I wrote for the occasion:

Abigail dedication prayer
Father God we thank you for the joy that has been named Abigail. We thank you for health in mind and body. We thank you for giving us someone to love. We thank you for family. Thank you for James and Crystal, recognising that Abigail must have been given first choice when parents were allocated.
We pray for her life as we find your desires for her echoing as hopes and dreams in our hearts.
May she find the wild, extravagant, dangerous God who looks just like Jesus. May her spirit leap and frolic in response to your call. May she dance with you and hold you close. May she laugh and cry with you as you tell her your stories. May she love the unlovely with you and be the instrument by which ugliness is turned into beauty.
May she be passionate in her giving, generous in her loving and complete in her forgiving.
In times of darkness may she glow and when her journey becomes difficult may she find endurance.
When faced with difficult choices may she always choose the path paved with love and sacrifice.
May her journey to becoming a woman be an unfolding of new depths to her personality and wisdom.
Bless her with good friends at every stage of life. Let her find soul-mates who will share her journey.
Help us in our dedication to her. Give us sensitivity, compassion and wisdom in abundance. Give us the ability to turn her tears into laughter and may she always see your face reflected in our eyes.
As we find our hearts filled with gratitude, love and hope we dare to believe that you have heard our prayer and will live in the expectation of its fulfilment.
